Helen Hudson Below (Mrs. Wm. J. A.) was born in Redfield, South Dakota, and educated in the grade and high schools of Wausau, Wis. She graduated with honor from the Art Institute of Chicago after which she supervised and taught art in Wisconsin and Illinois for ten years. Gave up teaching temporarily to become an illustrator of childrens books and magazines. Has kept up her art education, taking summer courses at Boothbay Harbor, Maine with Henry Snell, and at Provincetown, Mass. with George Elmer Browne. Has exhibited at the Art League since joining in 1923, receiving a purchase prize in 1929. Is at present a member of the Board of Directors, and teaches the Wednesday class in landscape and still life at the League. Also belongs to The All-Illinois Society of the Fine Arts, and exhibits in their shows. Has exhibited with the National League of Pen Women, and at The Art Institute. Has had one-man shows at the Forest Park and Rockford, Ill. Woman’s Clubs.
